Birthday Madness!!!

The last 2 months have been crazy, but in a good way. Its been one birthday after another with a baby shower thrown in for good measure. Here are the cakes I made for the birthday girls (the first pic is a close-up of the Strawberry Shortcake cookie basket I made). My next post will have the cakes for the birthday boys.

Time For Class...

This weekend I was able to attend cake decorating class on Saturday and Sunday with Marcela Capo (http://www.marcelacapo.com/). In the first class, we created a ballerina using gum paste. The second class focused on animal prints and purses. I had a blast and can't wait for the next one!

Happy Birthday Coach Shula

I was asked to make a cake for an event celebrating Coach Don Shula's 80th birthday. After some "detective" work I found out Coach really enjoyed vanilla cake with strawberry filling, so that's what I made. The cake was covered in buttercream and smoothed out for a faux fondant look. The additional decor was made in chocolate fondant, colored fondant, and gum paste.

A New Addition...

This is the cake I made for my baby shower this past weekend. It's a marble orange cake with citrus buttercream. The topper represents our family waiting on our new addition to "hatch". I thought I made too much cake, but as usual, my family and friends didn't disappoint.

Habana Nights

Dominoes anyone?
The client wanted chocolate and she got it; chocolate cake with chocolate ganache and chocolate buttercream. This cake was fun to make. I enjoyed creating the wood grain look on fondant and rolling my own "Cohiba" Cuban cigar with chocolate fondant. As for the sugar paste dominoes, I actually played a round of dominoes with my husband to set them up on the cake.
